Gorgeous， stark artwork。 It’s been a while since I read the last volume but I love this slow burn folk horror tale。 Is there other comparable manga to this？ ‘Mermaid Saga’ kind of goes there a bit but is like forty years old！ Anyway， this volume is largely exposition and feels like a build towards the final half of the series。 It’s always a beautiful world to visit。

خیلی حس خوبی ندارم که 3 دادم ولی در حد 4 هم نبود。 یه بخش‌هایی از این ولوم اصلا لازم نبودن و حس کردم کش داده شده。 علاوه بر این، کلی تایم گذاشت تا شخصیت اصلی چیزی کشف کنه که من مخاطب، 3 ولوم قبل‌تر فهمیده بودم。 حس بیهودگی بهم داد。 از طرف دیگه، داستان منسجم‌تر شده 。 خیلی خوبه که کم کم هدف دار شد。 ببینم در ادامه چی می‌شه。

This was such an interesting volume！ We learn some more background about the curse and Shiva’s role in the Priest’s revelation。 We also have the first real conflict between Shiva and Teacher — which was equal parts funny and adorable。 The argument was probably the first emotional outburst we’ve seen from Shiva and I look forward to seeing her character grow and develop as the story goes forward！

Teacher learns more about the curse， discovers the Holy Father's revelation about Shiva， and flees from two cursed soldiers who are hunting them。Book 5 begins where Book 4 left off with the Outsider from Book 2 arriving at Teacher’s and Shiva’s cottage carrying Auntie’s skull。 Shiva is crushed at the loss of her beloved caretaker， and Teacher is perplexed as Auntie had told him that a cursed person is unable to die once the transformation is complete。 The Outsider then leads them to a glade in w Teacher learns more about the curse， discovers the Holy Father's revelation about Shiva， and flees from two cursed soldiers who are hunting them。Book 5 begins where Book 4 left off with the Outsider from Book 2 arriving at Teacher’s and Shiva’s cottage carrying Auntie’s skull。 Shiva is crushed at the loss of her beloved caretaker， and Teacher is perplexed as Auntie had told him that a cursed person is unable to die once the transformation is complete。 The Outsider then leads them to a glade in which （view spoiler）[Auntie has transformed into a tree （hide spoiler）] where he explains more about the Mother， Black Children， the curse， and souls。 The knowledge that Teacher had known Auntie was losing her human memories and had done nothing to help her prompts the first real conflict between Shiva and Teacher。 The two have an argument， ending with Shiva barricading herself in her bedroom。When Teacher goes out alone， he encounters not only the Outsider from Book 2 but two transformed soldiers who had been cursed during the razing of the eastern village when Teacher rescued Shiva from the Inside in Book 3。 They attack both Teacher and the other Outsider， and during the fight one of the transformed Insiders demands to know where Shiva is。 He tells Teacher that she is "the Girl from the Other Side" from the Holy Father's revelation and that her soul is the key to ending the curse。After Teacher narrowly escapes the soldiers， he decides to flee with Shiva。 And the story ends with them （view spoiler）[heading towards the abandoned cottage belonging to a couple Auntie knew （hide spoiler）]。This story is about Shiva， a human child， and Teacher， her inhuman guardian。 It is set in a world with two kingdoms divided by a wall， the kingdom inside， populated by humans known as Insiders， and the kingdom Outside， populated by inhuman monsters known as Outsiders。 The Outsiders are under a curse， which is transmitted by touch， and if an Outsider touches a person， that person will also transform into a monster。What really stands out in this series is the loving relationship between Shiva and Teacher， and the author-illustrator does an amazing job of capturing their quiet everyday intimacy as well as their devotion to one another。 The fact that they cannot touch for fear of spreading contagion creates an interesting tension within their interactions。The English edition of the book is read back to front， the panels on each page read up to down， and the speech bubbles read right to left。 Sometimes it is difficult to tell which speech bubble belongs to which character because of their shape and placement and because Teacher and Shiva share the same font。 。。。more
